Many thanks to those who have provided info on iris acronyms.
Unfortunately, even with all this new insight, I find my original
problem unsolved. The posting that started all this: Tale of an iris
newbie -- Uh, why was this funny...? I had hoped decoding the
acronyms mentioned would reveal all, but clearly there's more
involved.
As introductions seem the order of the day, a few words about myself.
Definitely an iris light-weight. I've got some growing out back. A
few beardeds that 'came with the place'. Some other more interesting
beardeds that I rescued from my father's benign neglect some years
after my mother's death (she was the gardener). A clump of siberians
that now measures about 3 feet across and is threatening to take over
everything in the vacinity, including a couple of ensatas foolishly
planted too close by.
I've done time at the backyard picnic table, cutting rotten bits off
of bearded iris rhizomes and dousing everything in sight with rubbing
alcohol (does bleach work better???). I'll never forget my first
encounter with an iris borer. Euwww! Like something out of a bad sci
fi movie!
But really, I don't know a lot. Looking forward to learning from this
list.
Cheers,
