clarence: have you ever tried field growing them from seed?  or using the
'grannys washtub' method - or what more civilized people would call a
protected raised bed?  maybe with a range of genetic material we might get
seedlings better adapted to eastern conditions.  know anybody who would sell
some seeds, cheap, and with directions?  i could diversify!  expand from not
being able to grow tall beardeds to not being able to grow pacific coast
iris!  -re spring shipping: spring is a bad time to try perennials here -
gravel soil dries too fast, mulch attracts moles and golden retrievers.  this
is nearly zone 7 - would spring be as important here?  linda - will try to
grow anything once.
