Janis, I do have never grown either of the 2 you mention.  But there are many
fancy bicolors, plicatas, etc that do grow well in the East, and which are
not particularly prone to rot (although any bearded iris can get the rot
forms under the right conditions).  All of Sterling Innersts plicatas and
bicolors do well here, e.g. Instructor, Tennessee Woman, Ominous Stranger,
etc.  Re plicatas, most that drive from Spinning Wheel are likely to do well
re rot...and of course Spinning Wheel thrives like a weed.  All of D.C.
Nearpasses do well here also, e.g. Purple Pepper, My Katie.  Mary Dunn's
plicatas seem very rot resistant in my garden.  (And Ron Mullins gorgeous
Rhonda Fleming is doing great).  Clarence Mahan
