Re: rot and varieties

Linda: DO get the registration books - they aren't bedtime reading, but they
are a valuable resource for many reasons. I only have them back to about the
60's, since I'm not growing historics. You can buy a 10 year compilation and
then some updates and that will do ya.

You asked how many irises I put in each year - the answer is "about 200% more
than I plan to!". DO save garden space for your local club's sale.... there
you'll find the irises that WILL definately do well in your area! And you
can also talk to the people who grew it.

As a general rule of thumb, I usually order from Stahley and from Keppel.
I'll buy an iris here and there by joining someone else's order also. I
ALWAYS add siberians and Japanese - usually from Ensata, Draycott and Aitken.
I like Sterling's as well. The problem is, that I find it hard to be
ruthless in my own garden, I get sentimentally attached to the plants already
there... so more comes in than goes out. I live in a village and my small
space is certainly finite ... I've already got things in pots all over
because there's nowhere to put them -

England's climate is like that of the northeast (more moderate than Buffalo,
NY, however), Australia is much dryer. I LOVE Blyth's things - but they
don't love me!
