Depends on where you are - it also depends on the year :-) The climate
varies quite a lot across the country. We only get about 26 inches of rain
a year here, but in the extreme west they can get up to 160 inches. Also,
the soil here is essentially rubbish overlying free-draining chalk. The
bearded Irises love that, so we get negligible rot. Areas with heavy soils
probably suffer far more.
On the other hand, its too dry for me to succeed with sibirica-type irises
(esp. I. chrysographes) in the garden without major watering intervention.
