I'll have to look back at basic biology books, but as I remember, as
very small amount of non-nuclear DNA can come from the paternal side.
Not enough to worry about in a hobby of iris breeding, but enough to
worry about if you're selling stud semen from a prize bull all around
the world. The non-nuclear paternal effect could be all
"pseudogenetic," as well. I can imagine that a pollinator which has
slowly growing pollen tubes could give less vigorous seed, but the
only example I know of this is governed by nuclear DNA (in a maize
example). In this case, it could be nuclear and non-nuclear.
