Maybe I should have added that this figure only occurs on hills in the
extreme west of the country. The lower figure would be more typical for the
rest of the country. BTW, insult away - you won't offend me - I'm not a
hybridizer!

Interested in your comments on rot & different soils. The RHS Iris trials
are not far from here; I'll try to find someone to ask about their
experience of rot. If I succeed, I'll post the information.

For the folks who asked, a Brother P-Touch labelmaker is a little machine
that cranks out labels on a strip of adhesive backed plastic. You can buy
the plastic on various colors, with various print colors (i.e., gold on blue,
red on white.... I like black on clear). There are various machines... my
advice is to NOT buy the top or bottom of the line. The 2nd from the top is
fine... and it will cost between $150 to $200 (unless you hit a sale). The
tape is ALSO expensive... I buy the 50ft lengths and it costs about $30 each.
I have 'figgered' out how to conserve tape by printing a bunch of labels at
a time and cutting them apart with scissors... the machine will leave about
an inch on the front of each label, which is wasted tape.

The labels will NOT come off and will NOT deteriorate. There are different
fonts, and you can put little boxes around things, or bold or italic your
print. Office Max sells them as does Lechmere.
