'Katherine Hodgkin'

The reticulata iris 'Katherine Hodgkin' is blooming now by my
front porch, and I'm quite impressed--not only for the unusual
color (which I expected), but for its vigor (which I did not).
Some of my reticulatas (including KH) are planted in a less
than ideal spot: it is damp and somewhat shady, BUT it is warm
in winter, and I'm selfish when it comes to early bloom. Anyway,
the others in this bed have trouble maintaining themselves.
'Violet Beauty' does just fine, 'Harmony' does pretty well,
'Natascha' nearly vanished, but 'Katherine Hodgkin' has actually
produced a good quantity of blooming-sized offsets. (This is its
second bloom season.)
