Hello to you all!
Here in Stockholm, Sweden, the sky is grey, and it is +2 deg. C
Most gardeners in Stockholm I believe have problems with deers,
(Roe deer) the roe deer just love to eat all the flowers.
In my neighbourhood they come alone or up to 5 at once.
You can never anticipate when they are going to come, they come at all
times in all seasons.
They love to come in the spring time to eat up all the buds.
But when the flowers has open they seems not so attractive to eat (exept for Iris)
The Roe deer is a true gourmet, he goes around and pic the most delicat flovers
to eat, and more to it when he eats the tulips and crocus he usually pulls
the bulb up aswell.
They love :
Almost all spring flovering plants EXEPT daylilys
and later on Roses and Phlox.
They are also found of rubbing their horns against my Thuja's and
Junipers and.....
My Iris danfordie and Histroides and reticulata was all eaten up last year.
The Iris Germanica seems not be just as tasty, and not the Iris Barbata 'nana'.
We have tried several methods for protection. (But net yet a big mean dog.)
If you put up some Unwashed sheep wool near the flowers it seems to have some
repellent effect, but only a limited time.
The best way we have found out is some kind of net.
But the roe deer are pretty smart aswell, he soon learns a way to get rid of
the net. A soft net he can trample down, and a hard steel net he usually kicks
away. And if you try to scare them away they come back later in the night.
Please Please help me with some tricks to save my Spring flowering Irises,
I just love them.
