Re: space age irises?

Linda writes

|SKY HOOKS has done especially well, and (just for
|me) it sometimes blooms without hooks.

Me too. I should have mentioned in my original messages that the horns,
spoons, and flounces are quite variable, sometimes present, sometimes
not, sometimes differing from flower to flower or even stalk to stalk.
About half of my 'Sky Hooks' blooms last year showed horns, the others
did not.

'Sky Hooks' is a nice enough iris that it can hold its own in the
gardens, horns or no. So if someone is interested in trying "space
age iris", this is one to start with. If you grow it and just get
very excited about the little horns, you can move on to get others.
If your reaction is jush "yeah, OK", then you can keep 'Sky Hooks'
around for its good growth habits and pleasing flowers, and forget
the rest.

Happy irising, Tom.
