cult: cayenne pepper

does anyone happen to know if sprinkling cayenne pepper on my beds will
hurt the plants, iris and otherwise?

i am still battling cats, the live trap is on loan at the moment, i'm
getting truly unnerved.  they are literally unearthing plants now....
