As Bill notes, the BIS book mentions some wide crosses.

Also the Appendix to GARDEN IRISES (Randolph for AIS, 1959), which I would
imagine to be the source of some of the material in the BIS book, considers
known crosses in some detail. It is not possible to reproduce the whole
shebang. Some points of interest are:

Mention is made of crosses of I. kaempferi (now I. ensata, a Laevigata) with
I.monnieri (Spuria) and kaempferi with DOROTHEA K. WILLIAMSON. Crosses of I.
siberica have been reported with Ii. laevigata, versicolor, virginica,
pseudacorus (KOOTENAY). I. wilsonii with I. fulva, I.delavayi with I.fulva
and also I.laevigata.

Re: Californicae: I douglasiana has been reported crossed with Ii. forestii,
orientalis (the siberian not the spuria), missouriensis, longipetala, and
with CAESAR'S BROTHER (ROYAL CALIFORNIAN). I. tenax with Ii.chrysographes,
orientalis, setosa (TENOSA), and with I. wilsonii (META)

<< Spurias seem to stand alone.>>

There are crosses reported between various spurias with Ii. kaempferi,
pseudacorus, laevigata, fulva (JOHN WISTER), with the two fulva x brevicaulis
hybrids FULVALA and DOROTHEA K. WILLIAMSON (CHRISSY WOLFE), with I. sibirica
(TRUE BLUE), and with I. orientalis (Mrs. H. R. MOORE).

The introduction to the appendix carries the notation that "This is a
selected list from which have been omitted recorded hybrids of uncertain
parentage or questionable status." It is an interesting appendix.
