Anner has extracted some interesting material from WORLD OF IRISES.

I notice that some of the hybrids were named and therefore presumably
registered.  It might be a useful project to track down these registrations
and see if they have clues to whether or not the hybrids listed were real
(hybrids, that is) or not.

Some of these listed hybrids would have been so interesting that it is
remarkable material of them seems not to have survived to the present day.
(Perhaps they weren't all that interesting after all...?)

I still contend that a healthy skepticism is the best attitude toward
wide-cross hybrids, even if they are reported in authoritative literature,
so long as there is no supporting data or reference.  The bibliography of
the BIS species book, for example, is woefully brief and the text includes
no bibliographic footnotes or citations to support statements made therein
which are not from the writers' personal experiences.
