Re: SHOW: Deciding What Constitutes "Introduction"

Introduction is defined in tedious detail by the regulations binding
an "International Registration Authority" which of course AIS is --
for all irises other than Bulbous. And yes, it is explicitly limited
to publication in the IRAs data listing, be it called C.L., R & I or
whatever.

When a hybridizer or firm kvetches, "Oh it's in my catalog, and also
in Gregori's sale list -- I thought you (Registrar) would notice!" it
does not fly. That is not to say that conscientious and outstanding
registrars such as Keith, and his predecessors for several decades
back, have not often walked the extra mile with forgetful or
procrastinating introducers.

Personal courtesy by the Registrar, to pick up an introduction
neglected by the introducer, does not work with introductions in
worldwide commerce. A standard routine must be set and followed by
all, to be fair.

The point regarding "properly . . . introduced" is germane as the
HANDBOOK FOR JUDGES AND SHOW OFFICIALS serves as a standard for Iris
Societies other than AIS.
