Re: CULT: Irises in pots.

From: Gullo <tgf@frontiernet.net>

Hi all,

I have tried and currently grow a variety of iris in pots including various
bearded classes, I Setosa, I. Versicolor, I. Missouriensis, Siberian irises,
Japanese irises, I. Christata and possibly others which I can not recall at the
moment. Many irises make acceptable container plants, but there are some things
to watch out for. Key things to keep an eye on:

Moisture-pots dry out more quickly
Heat-using dark colored pots during the heat of summer can lead to overheating
Rodents-pots can provide cover to voles and the like
Crowding-irises can easily overcrowd a pot

Sinking the pots can decrease the moisture loss and the potential for
overheating, but also can provide more cover for rodents especially when pots are
grouped together. Pros and cons to container gardening like most everything
else. Depends on one's circumstances and needs whether container gardening is
appropriate.
