We have just sizzled our way through several days of temperatures hovering
around the 40 celsius mark in the top corner of Victoria. In the iris
gardens locally I can report stems on AFFLUENCE, BLACKWARE, NAVY WAVES,
HOSTESS ROYALE FEEDBACK, EARL OF ESSEX, BEVERLEY SILLS, AUSSIE CHALLENGE,
CHATTER, STITCHED BEAUTY, BLUE CHIP PINK, TEMPTONE and CELEBRATION SONG. Of
special note is the display on ENGLISH CHARM in a Mildura garden. Also in
this garden KEY LIME is flowering and I liked the reason why the grower has
kept this iris. It reminds her of an Aunt from Florida who baked a pie
called Key Lime Pie. I think that is a wonderful reason.
The past two days have offered some relief from the heat with temps in low
30's. and great for pulling weeds that grew like crazy after the heavy rain
in December. We are fast approaching harvest season for our grapes and so
welcome the milder and rain free weather. Table grape packing is in full
swing and soon to be followed by wine grape varieties for crushing then the
varietes that are dried. We dry all our grapes.
