This does not qualify as a controlled experiment, but at one time growers
in the Mesilla Valley used three different water sources: the Rio Grande,
private wells, and city water.
We irrigate by flooding rather than sprinkling, but the concensus was that
all else being equal [it rarely is!] city water came in a poor third.
