Wellll, let me shed a little light on this subject.
Basically, I am the arbiter (as list owner) of what is allowed on the
list. I don't very often jump into the mix because I have found that
most often the list does pretty well moderating itself. I would admit
that I personally tire of endless weather and freezing reports
especially if all that is said is "I am going to have a freeze tonight
and I wonder if my iris WEATHER RESISTANT will make it." But, what is
*much* more interesting is a report after the fact of what was done to
protect the iris and how they fared. Truth be told, most of those spates
do not last too long.
As to things like the reports on the eclipse, we are a community that
develops "acquaintanceships" (term used to cover a wide range of
relationships) and we have to recognize that some threads arise out of
the ability and desire to share with one another. Certainly, many of
those messages would be better sent privately, but we have to be a
lillte flexible here.
On subjects that are clearly not related to irises, however, I will step
in occasionally and ask that the participants take the discussion off
list. The way to deal with questions that are not related to irises is
to post the question (with appropriate Subject Tag e.g., OT-CHAT:) to
the list and ask anyone responding to do it privately.
So as to motorcycle questions concerning the trip to Dallas, post your
question to the list and ask everyone to respond privately. If any of
you want to be kept in the loop on that question, email Catherine
privately and ask her to forward any responses to you off-list.
