ANNOUNCING HIPS HAPPENING, THE IRIS EVENT OF 2000!

The Empire State Iris Society of the American Iris Society cordially invites
you to attend HIPS Happening, the first convention of the Historic Iris
Preservation Society, hosted with pleasure by ESIS in the Syracuse, New York,
area June 2-4, 2000.

HIPS is an international special interest group affiliated with AIS which is
devoted to the preservation of older Irises and the study and conservation of
the documents and artifacts associated with them. HIPS Happening will offer
irisarians and those interested in heritage gardening or garden history a
unique opportunity to view rare historic irises and explore the history of
our modern garden irises with knowledgeable enthusiasts. The convention will
feature tours of private gardens displaying hundreds of irises, displays of
rare archival materials, a judged exhibition of blooms, and a special program
presented by Clarence Mahan, distinguished former President of HIPS, and
current President of AIS. This is truly an iris "happening" not to be missed!

Participation is not restricted to AIS and HIPS members, but space is
limited. For further information on programs, fees, and accommodations,
please contact Helen Schueler, Convention Chairman, at (315) 695-6777 or
hipshappening@juno.com, or visit the Historic Iris Preservation Society's
fascinating page on the Internet at http://www.worldiris.com, where a
detailed preview of the tour gardens, a schedule of events, and a printable
registration form will be found for your convenience. We hope to see you
there!
