A bits of odds and ends.
Re the umbrata and luminata patterns. The definition that was derived at by
the study group and recently posted indicates that the anthocyanin pigment is
mostly in the center of the petals and usually abent or at least very much
ligher at the edge. Althought there is a silmar effect between this and the
umbrata pattern they are different. Thus a luminata is not an umbrata. The
pattern will not show if a luminata is crossed to something that doesn't carry
plicata and luminata genes, and is recessive.
I mentioned earlier that ther were exceptions to the SDBs. There are some that
strongly suggest that the pla genes are not the only ones on the pumilla
chromosomes. Some of these exceptions are Black Star, Trajectory, Brambleberry
( classified as a MDB, but is a short SDB) and the seedling that I posted on
iris photos as 93-255-1. More on these later.
I'm also looking at the broken colour iris. There appears to be an interaction
between plicata (certain genotypes)and the Recessive Reduced Anthocyanin (RRC)
genes, thus several types. The pattern with Ziggy seems to be one that doesn't
require RRC.
Some further thoughts re the luminata pattern. Mike Sutton has shared some
information that indicates that I need to relook art this probbably in
conjuction with the information re exceptions in SDBs.
More later.
