Hello everyone, I use 5 gallon buckets and rolled up newspaper. I make
my selection write the name on side of rolled up newspaper, puch stock
down into tightly rolled paper, carry stock to end of row and place it
into bucket. I stagger the blooms so they don't injure each other. I
usually take about 40, I know they are not all winners but the point of
a show for the general public is to make them aware of all the colors
that iris now come in and how they can become members of our local
society and have as much fun as we are!! I really prefer a show or
display that lets the general public smell, touch, re-arrange all they
want. When I get to show (gordon does the driving in our old jeep) I
rush ahead since I cannot bear to follow behind and watch every bump
that cannot be avoided. Upon arrival we unload, carry to preparation
table, fill out proper paper work (use address stickers to save time),
we then use the buckets to haul away newspaper rolls, plant garbage, sit
on buckets sometimes, haul water, etc: Can you tell that I am not really
competative (unlike nephew Steve, who is going for "six" years in a
row). Lorraine in Modesto California where the temp is 28 degrees, the
Tule fog has visiablity to about 100 feet and the ground is white with
frost.
