The branching and any leaves should go to the sides.

Usually then the flowers tend to lean toward and look best from 
one of the two possible remaining "fronts."

Or sometimes there is a significant flaw which is not visible 
from one side. There is always the chance that the judges will 
not ask that the stalk be turned and the problem will sneak through
unnoticed.

Judging is not the crapshoot it was called here a few years ago, 
but judges are certainly human and therefore fallible.
