Carol,
Cleaning out the dead leaves will also reduce infestation of Iris
Borers, but having lived in Kentucky myself, you are right about spraying
them. Irises are very hardy, and I am sure they will come through the winter
fine. The worst thing is frost heaving, when there are a lot of freeze-thaw
cycles. If you see an Iris rhizome that is lifted off the ground, step on it.
