For what it's worth, I. unguicularis died and I. lazica has thrived
(thriven?) tho hasn't bloomed in several years under my benign neglect &
moderately stressful growing conditions. Both were a gift from Rick
Tasco and Roger Duncan & I don't know where they came from originally,
so can't comment as to the accuracy of the names. But there was
definitely a difference in ecological adaptation of the two! <g>
Bill Shear quoted Aaron Davis and Stephen Jury, the authors of the
account of Series Unguiculares:
"This species [I.lazica] is easily separated from I. unguicularis by its
flat, wider, more or less unribbed leaves and larger fiddle-shaped
falls.
It also occupies a completely different ecological niche."
