Hello All,
I recently received my Reblooming Iris Recorder with a rebloom report
form enclosed. Unfortunately, the report form did not include any
instructions, so I was left wondering exactly what qualifies as
legitimate rebloom for an official RIS rebloom report. I have
privately contacted both Rosalie Figge and Charlie Brown for help with
my questions, and they have both given generously of their time and
experience to share their views with me. I am left with the
impression, however, that there really are no definitive established
RIS guidelines as relate to my questions, so I thought I'd throw my
questions out to all of you on iris-talk to see how you handle RIS
rebloom reports. Here goes ...
Which of the following would you include in an official RIS rebloom
report?
1. an iris purchased from a grower outside of your area, planted
during the summer into your garden, and blooming that same fall in
your garden (example: I purchased a number of rebloomers from CA last
summer which then bloomed in my garden last fall. Do I report those
as MN rebloom?)
2. an iris purchased from a grower outside of your area, planted
during the summer into your garden, and blooming the *next* spring and
fall in your garden
3. an iris listed in the Reblooming Checklist as a rebloomer, but
which blooms in your garden *only* in the fall and *not* in the spring
4. a stalk which must be protected from fall frost in the garden in
order to give it time to rebloom
5. a stalk which must be cut and brought inside in bud stage to bloom
indoors because of potentially fatal fall weather
6. a stalk which manages to open only one cold-damaged and deformed
bloom before frost kills the rest of the stalk
If you can think of any other reblooming variables which I have
overlooked, please feel free to comment on them as well. I am hoping
to have some "legitimate" rebloom next year, but I won't know for sure
until I understand exactly what "legitimate" is!
Thank
