I need the 59 Checklist, obviously. But a note on SATAN'S MISTRESS. Walter
is correct in that it is among the earliest to bloom. It nearly always has
had buds showing when a late, hard freeze came along. BUT, the good part is
that it somehow seems extremely resistant to any visible damage from the
freeze. I've had clumps next to it have the stalks turn to mush and
lay over and it went on to bloom without any visible signs of freeze damage.
This has been consistent and in two different locations. The last several
years it has resided in a low area of my hill, very susceptible to a heavy
frost settling in the area.
For the most part, though, I find the arilbreds as susceptible to late
freezes as the TBs and more apt to get bit since they bloom earlier, sadly.
Last year they bloomed in a very warm window and were just about finished
blooming when the freeze struck. So many of the TBs had stunted stalks or
buds that shriveled and dried up even though the stalks continued to grow on
some. And I didn't get to see OYEZ bloom. The freeze finished the only
stalk I've seen on it. Maybe this year?
