Re:Color Patterns

A couple months ago-a friend and I put on a program which we called--Iris
Basics 101--
We had several pages of handouts--page 1--showed all the parts of a bearded
iris--the picture almost filled the 81/2 X 11 page--and went over the
parts--so they could label the parts--

pages 2-5-- 6 iris per page--with a definition below it--Self, Blend,
Plicata etc--we researched many catalogues and r&is for descriptions--we
passed around pictures of iris from our sale file, showing the different
color patterns--then each person had to color in the pattern--(we had given
each of them color crayons)--also had some pages showing good and bad flower
form, clump form,
etc-- it was really a learning session for the newbies--but, also, some of
the older growers finally understood the new color descriptions--
to finish off--we gave each person a R&I and taught them how to read it--and
what information is in the year ones and what is in the 10 year ones--
This would be a good program for any club--(some of the older members
finally admitted they did not know what Glaciata was, but were too
embarrassed to ask for an explanation)
Great fun was had by all--and everyone took home their pictures so that they
could remember the color patterns--
I received SIGNA seeds yesterday--cannot find any not frozen ground to plant
them in!!!!!
Carryl in western Montana zone 3/4--mostly 3 the past few days--
