  I'm not sure of all the height limitations, but I consider Median to refer to all those irises which bloom in the season intermediate between the Dwarf beardeds and the Tall's.

  PCN stands for Pacific Coast Native, and refers to species  such as tenax, douglasiana, etc.
  PCI stands for Pacific Coast Irises, and I consider this to include all hybrids of the various species.
  I think the term PCH for Pacific Coast Hybrids would be a very useful one, but some may take it to mean Pacific Coast Highway, the Highway where one would expect to find Median irises growing along the dividing section. :-)
