January 7th! What a mild winter we have had so far. Evidence on the way
home from work were two tall stalks of a dark purple, somewhat older form of
iris blooming today. These are grown with a fair amount of neglect and are
actually under the roof of an open-sided carport on the south side of the
house in town. Not mine and with some protection. Still....not usual for
this area at this time of year even with considerable protection. It's the
second time I've noticed them reblooming this year. I think only the one
variety is planted in a strip under the eave of the carport - about 2-3 ft
wide and probably 15 ft long. At least from the street view I've never seen
anything that looks different blooming there, spring or fall. Nice.
