AIS: Bulletin - Flight Lines

Hello all:

First of all, thank you to the members who forwarded messages to me, regarding
the Flight Lines section of the Bulletin. I have communicated with Walter
Moores and Lowell Baumunk, who are two people whose opinions I deeply respect.

Apparently there has been previous discussion of the topic of getting
permission from internet posters for use of their postings in Flight Lines.
However, nobody had ever said anything to me about it, so it's news to me as of
this morning!

I think that a very good point has been raised, and it would be at least a
matter of courtesy to contact each person whose comments are included in Flight
Lines. Unfortunately, however, in a purely practical sense, I do not think
that Peter Weixlmann would be able to do this... there are just too many
people involved. In the past, it has always been a matter of course to print
excerpts of robins -- back in the days of stationery, envelopes, and stamps! --
and the incorporation of e-mail groups into that system seemed to be a natural
step in the evolution of the Bulletin.

For the present, no more installments of Flight Lines will be printed. I don't
want the Bulletin to be guilty of discourtesy to the membership, and I
certainly don't want to involve the Bulletin in anything with possible legal
ramifications. I will leave it to the Board of Directors to decide the future
of Flight Lines.

Bruce
