If I were to propose a motion to the AIS board now, it would be that:
there be a monthly posting to the lists asking that an email (one-time,
and revocable) be sent to the compiler allowing permission to publish
for all postings, or denying such permision for any posting. Lacking
such global direction, the compiler must ask permission on a
case-by-case basis.
Free and open discussion here is important. If letting people know that
they will not be quoted in print without permission will help achieve
that, I am all for it.
Also, there is much technical information which comes from this group
that deserves as wide an audience as possible. Easing flow from here
into the Bulletin is desirable. A lag of a month or two or three would
not be a problem, however. Putting in a deliberate lag would allow the
compiler to ask for case-by-case permissions, and give time for cleaning
up grammar.
Of course, any actual AIS motion is likely to be made by JIJ or Peter,
after legal advice, but I am interested in comments on my proposal.
Without a blanket okay, permission must be granted for each quotation,
and any poster can say "No, never" and avoid being asked.
