Re: Subject: AIS: Bulletin - Flight Lines

If someone was to ask my opinion, and of course no one has.

My solution would be thus:

I feel it should be a TERM OF USE that all postings to iris-talk be
considered free for anyone to use, quote, or whatever for any purpose period
without permission and without credit.

That would solve everything. People (like me) who freak when quoted by
others will think twice before posting. I certainly won't let it stop me
from posting, but I will know when I do it that someone may quote me. By
posting to the list, I understand that I have given permission to anyone to
use any and all parts of the posting.

I think posting a monthly permission slip and tracking which postings are
permissible and which aren't would become an administrative nightmare. I
cannot imagine anyone wanting to step up to the plate for that position.

I enjoy iris-talk and feel it is really a privilege to have this venue. I
worry when things like this come up because it complicates matters. This is
supposed to be a fun, pressure-free environment, and I would like to keep it
that way. By placing restrictions on it, it can become a chore to maintain
over time.

I might be inclined to extend this TERM OF USE to iris-photos as well. With
all the wonderful photo editing programs that are out there, it would not be
difficult for someone who is worried about their photos being used to
actually add a copy write message or a "photo taken by." on to the photo
being posted. Another option would be to lower the DPI and resize the photo
to 50% for posting to the list.
