No one has asked my opinion either but I think it would _not_ be
an "administrative nightmare" for the editor (or in this case,
compiler of Flight Lines) to clear the quoted segments with the
correspondents. There are ways to do and there is assistance
available. I think Laurie said she would help and so would I - a
simple thing already having the e-mail addresses in hand.
Speaking on a smaller scale with the publication I edit (albeit
twice annually not quarterly), I try and send each article I am
submitting to the printer to each author. There are almost
always editorial changes and I have only received one back that
preferred the article be printed as submitted to me so I changed
it back. I am mindful that I am not the writer and don't own the
articles.
I don't want to step on anybody's toes, but I feel that we are
making too 'big a deal' about commonly accepted editorial
practice in specialty publications.
*I am cognizant that some other AIS editors do not share this
opinion and that is their prerogative. When in doubt, give the
author the benefit of the doubt..check with him/her.
Slinking off in New Hampshire,
Ellen
