Re: Flightlines

I may regret sticking my nose back into this, but:

I think that people who are going to contribute to a publication need to not
only give their permission, but have a chance to review what they have
written.

Having seen the new Bulletin, I don't understand why it would be difficult to
send the column as an e-mail attachment to all those quoted a week or two
before the deadline and ask them for approval and changes. Tell them that no
response within 5 days equals approval. Am I missing something about how
difficult this would be?

This is called "Editorial Courtesy", and is in the same category as
acknowledging submissions and returning edited articles to the authors for
final review.

Participants of e-mail discussion groups absolutely should not have to write
every message as if it might be published. The process of editing comments
would not only be a courtsey, but would improve the content of the feature.

Ducking for cover,
Lowell Baumunk
