The numero uno historic "weed" here is PINNACLE - can't plant it too close
to anything else or it will smother it. Also, vigorous and floriferouus are
AMIGO, NEGLECTA, DAUNTLESS, FOXFIRE, NEW SNOW, PIERRE MENARD, CLIFFS OF
DOVER, and MINNIE COLQUITT.
Interesting - here in the SF bay area I've had a dreadful time getting
PINNACLE to grow or bloom - it's just sort of sat there for two years.
I second the mention of INDIAN CHIEF as an excellent grower and bloomer.
Another one that grows to the point of takeover & blooms very well for me is
ROYAL TARA.
On the other side of the coin, persistent underperformers include anything
I have grown that was hybridized by Dr. Kleinsorge with BRYCE CANYON being
the absolute worst (total bloomout the first year I had it), HELEN
COLLINGWOOD, LOTHARIO, INCA CHIEF, and possibly MOONLIT SEA (I say possibly
because I have had it for three bloom seasons and it hasn't bloomed yet).
MOONLIT SEA grows & blooms well for us (and it's such a beauty!).
Another addition to the wimp list would be GRAND CANYON - gorgeous flower,
but very prone to rot. My database is at home - is that another Kleinsorge?
Got several unknowns blooming right now - a possible CRIMSON KING (or maybe
ELEANOR ROOSEVELT), and a lovely purple bitone found in Berkeley.
A germanica from Brooks, Oregon should open soon.
