Re: HIST: Weeds n' Wimps

Hi,

Now this is a subject that is really interesting (to me). Very
educational.

I have lots of old good performers, but alas I don't know what most of them
are. There is a dull lavender blend with some yellow hints, is is a TB
that will sometimes go from one stem to a clump 2 ft across in one season,
and boy does it flower; but, I don't know the name. The ones that I do
know the names for that are fast-growing and indestructible include: I.
pallida 'Dalmatica' (or a very similar clone), 'Gudrun', 'Crimson King',
'Eleanor Roosevelt', 'Batik', and 'Rare Treat'. They all flower like crazy
for me too. Not sure if the last two qualify as "historic" yet, but they
act like some of the old ones. I. variegata 'Aurea-variegata' and
'Argentea-maculata' (or whatever name you know them under) are about the
same in all respects, indestructible but rather slow growing, and
unpredictable in the flower department (great bloom some years, none at all
in others); however, the foliage is quite nice. I have a small very blue
I. pallida that is also in the really fast and reliable department (and
very fragrant), but I don't know for sure what it is; I think it might be
'Munich Blue'?

Funny, I ordered a Wabash last year, and it promptly rotted (that doesn't
happen much in NM). Of course I probably did something stupid, and plan to
try again.

I have guesses about names of some of my others, but at the risk of giving
the wrong name, I'll refrain. Instead I'll probably send in pictures
later.

Dave
