Re: HIST: Weeds n' Wimps

Hi,

This is a follow-up to my last post. The blue I was talking about
yesterday is 'Babbling Brook'. However, I also looked at some pictures I
took this spring, and it looks like there may be another very similar
cultivar that is mixed in there, so a portion of my "big blues" will
probably have to go in the unknown file for future (hopefully)
identification. These blues are fast growing and prolific in flower
production. While 'Babbling Brook is a "historic" it is "modern" looking
to me.

As time goes by, the 30 year or older definition of "historic" has moved
deep into the time frame when irises don't look historic any more. I
wonder if another category could be set up for Irises older than say 1945
or so. Perhaps it could be called "Heirloom" (a popular term lately) or
perhaps "Ancestral", or how about "Pre-historic" (chuckles go here)?

Dave
