Neil,
I think everybody has the flu or a cold. Having moved from New England to
North Carolina, my inability to grow my beloved lilacs has only been
slightly moderated by my ability to grow crepe myrtle. My point is that
lilacs are classic for needing cold, or vernalizatrion. There are some
"southern types" that I've tried, and new ones this year, but so far without
much luck.
