In my opinion, this is a good orange genetically since it includes Hager's
FRINGE BENEFIT line (heavy lace) with his GOOD SHOW line (good form and growth)
with Ghio's GUADALAJARA. I've made one attempt and had one take. It produced
3 seed and one sprout. The seedling does show good increase but hasn't been
moved to the garden so I doubt it will bloom this spring.
I've not seen the outstanding growth that you (Christian) describe on MG but
now that all my children (iris children that is) are growing under the same
conditions maybe it will rise it's lovely self to the same standards you
describle. Ben's lines of orange irises have been outstanding.
Several attempts to grow ORANGE HARVEST have resulted in almost instant rot.
I can remember seeing it bloom once in Alvaton before it rotted. In my quest
for an orange rebloomer I will have to out cross to other colors to establish
the rebloom. May be a difficult task.
I'm always a little hesitant to 'muddy' a color like orange for fear of not
being able to remove the 'mud' in later generations! Earlier attempts to breed
orange to yellow and white rebloomers did not give anything encouraging,
which may be why I gave up for several years.
