No one is setting rules about how anyone must present cultivar names when posting. The choice is strictly up to the poster.

Generally speaking I would say that if you want to communicate with someone, you want to put it in terms that they will understand, Likewise, there is no adopted standard (at least on this list) for presenting cultivar names.

As to the term lurkers. That is an accepted term in "internet-ese" and there is no negative connotation associated with it, It means simply "people who listen (or read posts) without commenting publicly".
