I can understand the thoughts about the shady side of the connotation  of the 
term "lurkers" and someone sort of timidly put out the idea of the name 
"visitors"   That does sound a little more gentile  -- welcoming  -- cordial --  
less intimidating (?). --whatever.  In any case  maybe "lurking visitor" ?  or 
vice versa. ??  I'm sure people will  do the same by any name, after all,-- an 
iris is an iris is an iris to plagiarize the rose poet!  And -- what is a 
name?    In any case, mine is Rosalie nr Baltimore, USA    in  an Antarctic zone 7
