Hi,
I think I was guilty on this count (that is of bringing it up) last spring.
I kind'a thought mine smelled like bubble gum, but after the replies a
second (and third and fourth and fifth --------> ) made me realize that a
bubble-gum scented Iris really smells a lot like root-beer too.
Anyway, one that I'd like to add tentatively to the list is 'Prospero'.
This is tentative because my identification is tentative (I'm something
like about 60% sure).
This brings up a question for me. Do the wild tetraploid Iris from the
Near East smell like root-beer too? These old scented cultivars tend to be
ones that really look those wild types, and that might be purely derived
just from those. This would be I. cypriana, I. mesopotamica, I. trojana,
perhaps 'Amas', and so on.
