In ETIS, we have had people join our local group at the show to get some favor, such as a rhizome, we were giving new members, and then never come to a meeting all year! I suspect this is a national problem.

Many of these people either get the membership because of side benefits,
usually rhizomes. OR . . . because they've felt pressured into joining.
