Last year, I put each cross in a small section of stocking, knotted
both ends, tied on a plastic Venetian blind label with paint pen ID,
then put the whole batch of little stocking bags inside a mesh laundry
bag and dunked the whole shebang in the toilet tank. This was a lot
easier than trying to arrange 50 separate sections of stocking, and
easier to make sure it wasn't interfering with the float or flapper.
When I took them out of the toilet tank, I wrapped several paper towels
around the whole bag, put it inside a clear plastic grocery vegetable
bag, then put the whole thing in the fridge, rather than burritoing each
cross individually.
After 3 months, I took them out and planted them. Several crosses were
just starting to germinate, none were far enough along to be tangled
with each other or the stocking mesh.
Much less trouble than individual burritos, plus none got lost in the
fridge this time :-(
