I agree with you that the term "sprouting" feels inaccurate. LOL, I call mine 'Pop-Tarts' (because sometimes the leaf goes from a bulge in the root to 1/2 " high within 12 hours) when they finally break a leaf point away from the root structure. Some of them do take a quite long time to get to that stage from a root big enough to spot when inspecting seeds.

potted sprouts are taking up to 2 weeks or so to actually break ground. And
that's at room temperature, about 62 to 67 degrees. Some sprouts dug up after
2 weeks looked fine, but had not progressed much since being planted. At
outdoor temperatures, they may actually be sprouting long before you can see
them.
