Linda, It's funny that you mention that... I've read
that William Radler, the hybridizer of the extrememly
disease resistant rose "Knockout", does just that sort
of thing with his rose seedlings. He makes a slurry of
diseased rose leaves (blackspot and mildew) and sprays
that around to help identify the resistant ones.
