Are we talking survival from the time of germination or survival through the first
winter after lining out? I lose around 5-6 seedlings after transplanting into 4"
pots when they are about 4-5" tall. Once they are lined out into the garden I lose
maybe 3-5%. After maiden bloom the mortality rate skyrockets to nearly 90%,
although a few persist and grow in the compost heap. The only extra attention
seedlings get here once they are lined out is either a dose of surflan or Preen to
keep down the competition.
