Linda -- I love the flowers on these two seedlings, but bud count is ow -- about 5 on each, as I recall -- and while the branching is ok, it's not the graceful s-curve that I hoped they would inherit from one of their parents. I'd also like to see more height. These are first-year plants, though, growing in a mixture of poor soil mixed with new topsoil in an area that doesn't get sun until about 11 a.m. I am somewhat disappointed with the height and branching of almost all of the 223 plants growing in these four beds. But since they all come from only 8 crosses, 5 of which share a certain cultivar as parent or grandparent, I'm not sure whether their performance is because of their genes or their growing conditions. I am hoping to see some differences in the second year. -- Griff

What lush lovely dark blooms, Griff!

What are the faults you see in these that makes them not worthy of
public consumption?

I'm starting to wonder if some 'breeder' irises at lower introduction
prices might not be a bad idea!
