The bonsai community's response to Wikipedia has been to set up a bonsai dictionary, a set of species references, and other such things on Wikipedia. Then some keep backups and proof-read the Wikipedia periodicly to keep it honest.
No one has sabotaged anything last I heard, like a couple of weeks ago. If it was sabotaged, the backups people have could de-sabotage it.
Of course, most dealers have websites which carry similar information. Wikipedia and the various private websites, dealers and hobbiest both, will have much overlap, but much that is unique.
AIS has much good info on it's website. So do the various affiliated societies. The bosai people do more with Wikipedia.
I do see the advantage with using the AIS website, it being password protected, I'm sure. But a hacker could get in and make changes anyway. With Wikipedia, you are more aware of the danger and keep track better, maybe.
I am not sugesting a change. I stopped to concider why the two groups have taken to different ways. I think that while there is a similarity in the fanatism of people in the two groups, there are more bonsai hobbiests with only room for a plant or two on their balcony or windowbox. So what are they going to do? Spend their time doing such things as policing Wikipedia.
People with an acre or two of iris don't have time for that. It's amazing how much iris people do find time to volunteer.
