I like my Fuji S700, now S900. However it is not a compact camera, but it's easier to hold and has heaps of user options. I previously had a film SLR and it's good if you're used to a SLR but can't afford a digital SLR like the Canon Rebel. If your after a compact point-and-shoot a Canon Ixus is a highly regarded camera.
Regarding colour accuracy, many digital cameras will turn purples a more bluish shade, just as most film makes blue more purple. Make sure you get a camera where you can adjust the white balance. On manual settings I use a fluorescent lighting option which seems to automatically correct the purple to blue problem and keep other colours accurate.

It sounds like you are ready to spend some real cash, so my camera probably isn't what you would want. But I really like my inexpensive FujiFilm FinePix. Pretty much point and shoot, tho it has a few odds and ends that can be adjusted (i.e., flash on or off). Be sure to get optical zoom (digital zoom doesn't really matter much). This has 3x optical, which is plenty for what I need, but I've seen some advertised with up to 6X. Uses 2 AA batteries. This one takes up to a minute of video (no sound), but that's not an option I use intentionally <g> It takes reasonably good closeups of single blooms, if I'd learn to hold the camera steady and weren't too impatient to use a tripod. -- Linda Mann east Tennessee USA zone 7/8 East Tennessee Iris Society <http://www.korrnet.org/etis> American Iris Society web site <http://www.irises.org> talk archives: <http://www.hort.net/lists/iris-talk/> photos archives: <http://www.hort.net/lists/iris-photos/> online R&I <http://www.irisregister.com> --------------------------------------------------------------------- To sign-off this list, send email to majordomo@hort.net with the message text UNSUBSCRIBE IRIS
